CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Linda Marie "Lindy" Ziegler, 92, died Aug. 9, 2008, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 1, 1916, on a farm near Kelso. She was the daughter of Alex Burger and Clara Georger.

Linda and Joseph "Joe" Ziegler were married at the Cathedral Chapel Church in Los Angeles on Nov. 6, 1943. During World War II, Joe served in the U.S. Army. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Germans but was eventually freed by U.S. forces. Linda helped support the war effort by working in a defense plant as "Rosie the Riveter" in California.

After the war, Linda and Joe raised five children on a farm near Benton. Linda was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 369 in Benton and an active member of St. Denis Catholic Church and the St. Anne's Sodality in Benton.

Survivors include: three sons, Gary (Roxie) Ziegler of Kelso, Roy (Lenora) Ziegler of Benton and Ralph (Kay) Ziegler of Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Therese Glueck of Scott City; and daughter-in-law, Cheri (Norm) Ziegler of Overland Park, Kan. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Brian (Kim) Ziegler of Kelso, Alan Ziegler of San Jose, Calif., Paula Schulze of Elmhurst, Ill., Kenny (Deana) Ziegler of Dallas, Erik (Karen) Ziegler, Luke (Alicia) Ziegler, Dallas Glueck and Travis Glueck of Scott City and Misty Ziegler of Cape Girardeau; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Hillman of Benton.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, on Feb. 2, 1980; her son, Norbert "Norm" on Jan. 6, 2007; her parents, five brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.
