DEXTER -- Passengers aboard a Dexter school bus escaped without injuries after another vehicle rear-ended the bus Thursday in Stoddard County.

According to the Dexter Police Department, at 3:35 p.m. officers and Stoddard County Ambulance crews responded to a school bus accident on U.S. Business Highway 60, east of Locust Street in Dexter.

The accident occurred as a car driven by Cherie Swirple, 20, of Essex struck the rear of Dexter Public Schools bus No. 4, which was operated by Robert C. Blackler, 61, of Dexter. The bus was stopped, unloading a passenger at the time of the accident.

No injuries were reported for the bus driver and the 51 students, who were transferred to another bus and taken home.

The school bus was not damaged in the accident. Swirple's car received front-end damage and was towed from the scene.
