DEXTER -- Donald J. Hester, 79, died Aug. 29, 2008, at his home near Dexter.

Born June 29, 1929, in Flint, Mich., son of the late Daniel and Minnie Baker Hester, he had lived in Waterford, Mich., for many years before moving to Dexter in 1998. He was a member of Second General Baptist Church in Dexter and retired from General Motors in Pontiac, Mich., after 32 years of employment.

On April 16, 1948, in Piggott, Ark., he married Dorothy Maxine Vincent.

Survivors include: two sons, David Hester of Auburn Hills, Mich., and Daniel Hester of Rochester, Mich.; one daughter, Monica Elam of Bernie; two brothers, Charles Fisher of UP, Mich., and Gilbert Fisher of Patoka, Nev.; one sister, Viola Lanning of Lady Lake, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Ciara Gail Buck, and three brothers, Gene Hester, R.L. Hester and Paul Hester, also preceded him in death.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday at the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Josh Carpenter of Dexter officiating.
