NEW MADRID - Concluding the pageants which were part of the 29th American Legion Fall Festival Saturday was the selection of Miss Pre-Teen. The first recipient of the title, which was made part of the activities this year was Kami Vavak, 11, daughter of Dinah Vavak of New Madrid. Heather Graham, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Graham of New Madrid was first runner-up and Heather Patterson, 10, daughter of Terrell and Joyce Patterson of New Madrid was second runner-up.

SIKESTON - Brittany McDonald was crowned 1998 Miss Sikeston Friday night at the Sikeston Elks Lodge. She is the daughter of Duke and Pat McDonald. First alternate went to 17-year-old Tara Barnett, daughter of Steve and Beresa Barnett. Tessa Matheney, daughter of Hense and Joyce Winchester, was named second alternate.

NEW MADRID - Final construction is under way on a new Casey's General Store which will be located on Highway 61 in New Madrid. Construction is set to be complete by Oct. 29.
