Elzie Wethington
DEXTER -- Elzie L. Wethington, 74, died Oct. 3, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 7, 1934, at Essex, to the late Hudson G. and Bertha Leola Condict Wethington, he was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a member of the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter and had been a deacon in the General Baptist Church. A veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War, he was a member of the American Legion Kenady-Hanks Post No. 59. He was a former member of the Richland Public School District Board of Education, the Missouri State Board of Education and the Stoddard County Commission.
On Aug. 30, 1958, at Essex, he married Wanda Smith, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kay Wethington of Essex and Douglas W. and Lisa Wethington of Slidell, La.; four brothers, Fred Wethington of Bloomfield, M.B. Wethington of Sikeston, Don Wethington of Bloomfield and David Wethington of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Linda Curtis of Hillsboro, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Drew Wethington, Jessica Wethington and Jake Wethington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Glen Wethington, Russell Wethington, Paul Wethington and Hudson Wethington; and two sisters, Pauline Clanton and Leola Maxine Wethington.
Funeral services were conducted Monday in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. The Rev. Joshua Carpenter officiated.
Burial followed in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.
