KANSAS CITY - Dorothy McConnell, beloved Mother of Rodney McConnell and Toby Turner, left this Earth on Oct. 14, 2008, at the home she shared with her daughter. Born Nov. 17, 1918 in Bernie, to the late Robert and Mary King, she was a homemaker, doll collector, and designer of custom, hand-made clothing for collector dolls. Dorothy was an active member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ until she relocated to Kansas City in 2005...

KANSAS CITY - Dorothy McConnell, beloved Mother of Rodney McConnell and Toby Turner, left this Earth on Oct. 14, 2008, at the home she shared with her daughter.

Born Nov. 17, 1918 in Bernie, to the late Robert and Mary King, she was a homemaker, doll collector, and designer of custom, hand-made clothing for collector dolls. Dorothy was an active member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ until she relocated to Kansas City in 2005.

In 1936 she married Tobe McConnell and they made their home in Sikeston. He preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were: four sisters, Ruth Edmonds, Inez Nickell, Stella Young, and Grace Black; and one brother, Floyd King.

She is survived by her son, Rodney McConnell and his wife Margaret of Sikeston; her daughter, Dr. Toby Turner of Kansas City; and two granddaughters, Michele Turner of Overland Park, Kansas and Valerie Crader of Sikeston. Also surviving is a most special canine friend, Shadow, who was a constant, devoted companion in her final years.

The family will honor Dorothy's memory with relatives and friends at visitation to be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, with services to follow at 2:30 p.m. Pat Hogan of Shady Acres Church of Christ will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Bill Dodd, Ronnie Hamra, Ken Williams, Dr. Steve Williams, Walt Beavers, and Joe Karnes. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
