NORWOOD -- The Oran Lady Eagles have advanced to the quarterfinals in softball after defeating Norwood 6-1. The win came following a travel day in which the Lady Eagles made their way to Norwood only to be rained out and forced to make the trip once again on Thursday afternoon.
"The girls have been pumped up," said Oran head coach Sara Heisserer. "They were so disappointed to come back home yesterday (following the rain out), and I was worried it might wear them down. But, they came back today and it pumped them up even more."
Heisserer said that the squad came out and played hard and jumped out to an early lead and never let up.
The Lady Eagles scored two in the bottom of the first, two in the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. Norwood's only run came in the top of the third inning.
Claire Seyer was awarded the victory as she threw all seven innings, giving up one run (unearned), on three hits and two walks. She struck out nine of the 27 batters she faced in the victory.
"Claire (Seyer) pitched a good game," said Heisserer. "The girls played well and they're pumped about coming back to play Saturday."
Abbey Anderson, Amanda Williams, Halle Woodfin, Seyer, Courtney Scheeter and Rachel Moore each recorded one hit apiece for the Lady Eagles. Williams was the only hitter with an extra-base hit, a double. Anderson scored three runs, Taylor Irwin and Taylor Tenkhoff each scored one apiece and Moore scored one.
Oran (12-7) now plays in the quarterfinal on Saturday at Ash Grove. The Lady Eagles will square off with Walnut Grove (20-4) at 4 p.m.
