Several weeks ago, Historic Midtown Development Group members, Sikeston city officials and Downtown property owners got a glimpse at what Downtown Sikeston could look like in a couple of years. PGAV, an urban consulting firm out of St. Louis, gave a presentation with several different design ideas for American Legion Square and the area surrounding the Depot. These designs and ideas are one of the results of Sikeston being named a Missouri DREAM Community last year. Along with these new streetscape designs, PGAV consultants are doing many other studies and surveys concerning all aspects of the downtown area.

Thanks go out to everyone who attended our third annual Halloween Family Fun Day on Saturday in Malone Park. Also, a big thanks goes out to all of our volunteers and vendors, it is your help that make our events a success.

On November 14-16 the downtown merchants will host their annual Open House to kick off the Holiday Season. Santa is rumored to stop by American Legion Square, and carolers will be roaming around to serenade the shoppers. Also, be sure to catch a romantic carriage ride around downtown.

Be sure to look for this year's limited edition ornament, which features the Malone Park Band Stand. They can be found at the Depot, Falkoff's Men's Shop, King's Jewelry, Susie's Bake Shoppe, the Sweetgum Gallery and Frame Shop, or Sam's Fine Jewelry.

When you're shopping downtown this season, feel free to stop and enjoy the breeze outside while sitting on one of our newly installed benches. Sidewalk improvements are moving along nicely. With the new benches and trash receptacles being installed, downtown is really starting to look spruced up for the holidays. The new light posts with decorations should be installed soon.

If you're up and about at 8 a.m. Nov. 6, stop by Susie's Bake Shoppe and attend our monthly HMDG meeting. We'd love to hear your input.
