CORINTH, Miss. -- Virgie M. Allen, 82, formerly of Dexter, Mo., and Malden, Mo., died Nov. 5, 2008, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. Born March 29, 1926, in Stoddard County, Mo., daughter of the late Ernest Eugene Singleton and Addie Oevia Mason Gromer, she moved to Mississippi five years ago. She retired from Swifts Poultry Plant in 1970 and was of the United Pentecostal belief...

CORINTH, Miss. -- Virgie M. Allen, 82, formerly of Dexter, Mo., and Malden, Mo., died Nov. 5, 2008, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth.

Born March 29, 1926, in Stoddard County, Mo., daughter of the late Ernest Eugene Singleton and Addie Oevia Mason Gromer, she moved to Mississippi five years ago. She retired from Swifts Poultry Plant in 1970 and was of the United Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include: one daughter, Karen Shelton of Corinth; two sons Gary Allen of Malden and Tony Allen of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three brothers, Cacil Gromer of Columbia, Mo., Allen Gromer of St. Louis, Mo., and Charles Gromer of Dexter; three sisters, Annie Pruitt of Bloomfield, Mo., Dorothy Edwards of Essex, Mo., and Mary Gromer of Dexter; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Johnson; three brothers, Alva P. Gromer, Howard Gromer and Harold Gromer; and one granddaughter.

Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Jimmy Rich of Glen, Miss., officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
