SIKESTON -- Gary Hamby, 48, died Dec. 6, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born May 5, 1960, in Las Vegas, son of Robert V. and Eualia Lawrence Hamby of Sikeston, he was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ and had been an over-the-road truck driver and commercial refrigeration installer until May 1987 when he suffered a brain injury that left him disabled. SIKESTON -- Gary Hamby, 48, died Dec. 6, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born May 5, 1960, in Las Vegas, son of Robert V. and Eualia Lawrence Hamby of Sikeston, he was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ and had been an over-the-road truck driver and commercial refrigeration installer until May 1987 when he suffered a brain injury that left him disabled. He was cared for at home until the last five years.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by: two daughters, Sheila D. Hamby of Chicago and Heather Hamby of Memphis, Tenn.; his maternal grandmother, Rutha Lawrence Wiley of Sikeston; one brother, Robert L. Hamby of Lebanon, Tenn.; one sister, Sheila Vaughan of Sikeston; three nephews, Matt Vaughan, Robby Hamby and Ryan Hamby; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home, where services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Pat Hogan of Shady Acres Church of Christ will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be David Richmond, Larry Richmond, Will Yarbrough, Jimmy Lawrence, Ryan Hamby, Robby Hamby and Jim Arteme.
