Charleston girls blow out Hayti to improve to 3-0

STEELE -- The Portageville Lady Bulldogs won their fourth Bulldog Classic in a row Saturday evening, defeating the Kennett Lady Indians 68-35.

Portageville started strong, taking a 24-9 lead after one quarter and built their lead to 38-18 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same as the Lady Bulldogs continued to extend their lead to 57-29 after three quarters and cruised to the tournament championship.

"I thought our girls really played as a team," said Portageville coach Eric Ellerbrook. "They encouraged each other and fed off of each other and I was very proud of the way we played."

Portageville (5-0) was led by Brittney Walker's 17 points. Talisa Walker and Ronesha Ray added 14 and 11 respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action Thursday when Kennett visits Portageville for a rematch.

Charleston 75, Hayti 9

CHARLESTON -- The Charleston Lady Bluejays soundly defeated the Hayti Lady Indians 75-9 on Monday night as they begin their season with a 3-0 start.

The Lady Bluejays were able to spread the ball around as 10-out-of-11 players were able to score against the Lady Indians.

Charleston's next game will be at Meridian on Thursday night.
