SIKESTON - Carol Owens arrived Friday to spend the weekend with his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. E.D. Owens and family. Owens is currently attending Louisville Theological Seminary.
SIKESTON - Foundation work is under way for the new offices of the Blanton, Blanton and Rice Law Firm. The building, which is located on South Kingshighway, will consist of six offices, two conference rooms, secretarial quarters and a library with a fireplace. The structure is expected to be completed in late spring.
NEW MADRID - The falling level of the Mississippi River has left a moored gas barge near New Madrid on the shore. Around New Madrid on the Mississippi River, water levels are expected to rise and are not creating traffic problems. On the upper Mississippi, barge loads are being limited.

SIKESTON - Fifth grade students at Lee Hunter Elementary performed their annual Christmas play today. Two afternoon performances were conducted of "Saida and the Star," directed by music teacher Barbara Sikes.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Community Sheltered Workshop officially dedicated its new warehouse with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.
SAN ANTONIO - Air Force Airman Sean C. Whitehead has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base. He is the son of Calvin D. and Rhonda K. Whitehead of Dexter, Mo., and is a 1998 graduate of Dexter High School.
