NEW MADRID -- The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules strolled into New Madrid County Central's gymnasium on Thursday evening and departed with a 59-20 victory. The Lady Eagles won the tip, but from there on out the game was controlled by their visiting opponent.

After the first quarter of play the Lady Mules were up 22-5 behind Dennisha Rice who scored nine points in the first eight minutes. By the end of the half Poplar Bluff held a commanding 36-9 lead.

The second half was no different as NMCC only managed 11 points in the final 16 minutes while the Lady Mules put in 23 to win by 39 points.

For Poplar Bluff (10-6), Rice led in scoring with 15 points while Ruthie Johnson added 12. Ten total players got in the box score for the Lady Mules on the evening.

Poplar Bluff head coach Kirk Chronister said that the Lady Eagles battled hard against his squad and said they could be a contender come tournament time later in the year.

"New Madrid has some kids that can make it difficult on you," said Chronister. "Three or four times in a row they had four or five offensive rebounds. They're getting better fundamentally, they've got some kids that can shoot it and they can be a force in their district. They have some good talent and their coach is doing a good job with them."

Leading the way for NMCC was Jasmine Flennoy with nine points. Shanequa Daniels added six points in the loss.
