LENEXA, Kan. -- Hartsill R. Burchfield, 78, died Jan. 31, 2009, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Born Dec. 31, 1930, in Wooster, Ark., to the late John and Mary Wofford Burchfield, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1980. He was anindependent insurance agent for 18 years retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Lenexa Baptist Church, the Military Officers Association of America, Sunflower Chapter.
Survivors include: his wife of 53 years, Grace McCoy Burchfield of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Donna Burchfield of Shawnee; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Greg Wessel of Vashon, Wash.; four brothers, Rudolph Burchfield of St. Louis, Mo., Wendell Burchfield of St. Charles, Mo., James Burchfield of Sikeston, Mo., and Harold Burchfield of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sisters, Fayrene Cunningham of Wellington, Fla., Wanda Dye of Blytheville, Ark., and Patsy Oswalt of Bragg City, Mo.; and 5 grandchildren.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W. 87th St. in Lenexa.
Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Leavenworth.
