Former Governor honored at Capitol

Betty Hearnes places her hand on the casket of her husband, former Gov. Warren Hearnes before the start of a public viewing in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda Wednesday in Jefferson City. Hearnes, who from 1965 to 1973 was the first Missouri governor to serve two full consecutive terms in office, died late Sunday night at the age of 86 at his home in Charleston.

Governor Hearnes will lie in state from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Charleston. where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday with the Honorable Jeremiah W. (Jay) Nixon, governor of Missouri, and the Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, officiating.

The Missouri National Guard under the direction of Adjutant General Steve Danner will conduct Military Graveside Rites at the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston.
