SHS wins second straight match

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

ORAN -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs came away with their second consecutive win on Tuesday night with the help of freshman Monica Carter, who possibly set a new school record with the most assists in a single match as they defeated the Oran Lady Eagles in four sets; 28-26, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-22.

While there is no official record, Carter's 37 assists is believed to be the most in a single match during Sikeston's head coach Steve Beydler's tenure. Even though it was during a match with four sets, Beydler was still impressed with the performance by the freshman.

"For a freshman to step up and do that, it's pretty amazing," he said.

Sikeston avenged a loss last season to the Lady Eagles with a total of 44 kills on the night, by far the most in a match this season. Vonterria Applewhite led the way with 13 kills while Quesha Howard and Madeline Davis added 11 and nine respectively.
