SIKESTON -- When it comes to local Halloween costume trends, princesses, action heroes, nurses and doctors seem to be among the popular choices this year.

"With Halloween falling on a Saturday, everybody seems to be going to costume parties on both Friday and Saturday," said Garrett May, manager May Bros. Halloween Super Store in Miner.

According to the National Retail Federation's 2009 Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch, 47 million adults and 58 million children across the country plan to dress up for Halloween this year.

"The women have been going with Strawberry Shortcake, nurse outfits and even some have wanted the old English style outfit," May said of this year's trends.

For men, dressing as cops, doctors and in scary masks are favorites, May said.
