SIKESTON -- Most of the time when a team wins the turnover battle it results with a win on the scoreboard as well.
In a turnover-filled contest between the Sikeston Bulldogs and the New Madrid County Central Eagles on Thursday night at the SEMO Conference tournament, the Bulldogs won both.
Sikeston advances to their third SEMO Conference championship game in four years with a 71-43 win over the Eagles.
In a game that featured over 50 turnovers between the two teams, it seemed the ball spent more time out of bounds than in play. Sikeston forced a total of 34 NMCC turnovers on defense.
"I think a lot of the turnovers were us," NMCC head coach Travis Day said. "We just panicked. We got to learn how to slow down and just get confidence in ourselves. Right now, we're unsure.
"Not taking anything away from Sikeston, but I think we helped them. We knew what they were going to do, we just didn't answer the challenge."
