Nicholson wins discus at AAU Jr. Olympics

NORFOLK, Va. -- East Prairie senior Jennifer Nicholson won the discus throw at the 2010 AAU Junior Track and Field Olympic Games at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va.

Nicholson, the Missouri Class 2 state champion in the discus last year, began her chase for gold on Tuesday when she defeated some of the top young throwers across the nation in the discus with a 145-feet, 3-inch hurl, which was also a new personal record for her as well.

She beat out 57 other competitors for first place.

Nicholson is not done though, as she will also be competing in the javelin and shot put in the next two days. Nicholson will throw the shot put today at 1 p.m. and on Thursday at 4 p.m. she will throw the javelin.

Nicholson's results will be followed throughout the week by the Standard Democrat.
