NEW MADRID -- A heated countywide race brought voters out on one of the hottest days of the year.
In the single countywide race, which was on the Democratic ticket, incumbent Clerk of the Circuit Court Marsha Meatte Holiman held on to her office. Holiman defeated Jami Geske polling 1,132 votes, or 58.9 percent, to Geske's 790 votes or 41.1 percent of the total Democratic ballots cast.
A cheer went up from the crowd in the Circuit Court room as Holiman read out the tally to her supporters. She then thanked those who had helped her throughout the campaign.
"I couldn't have done it without all the great help from so many supporters,"
Holiman said. "I'm looking forward to the next four years of serving New Madrid County residents."
