Wes Stevenson posts top score in bareback riding event

SIKESTON -- The 58th Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo kicked off Wednesday night with the cowboys and cowgirls posting some exciting times in their respective events.

In the bareback riding, Wes Stevenson easily out-performed the competition posting a score of 87 to lead the pack. Joe Gunderson was second with a 78 while Justin McDaniel and Will Lowe tied for third each scoring a 76.

Nick Guy was tops in the steer wrestling competition with a time of 3.5 seconds. Coming in second was Dean McIntyre with 4.1 seconds and Rodney Burks was third with 4.4 seconds.

In the saddle bronc, Alex Wright edged out Cody Wright for first with a score of 86 while Cody Wright posted an 84. Cort Scheer rounded out the top three in the event with a score of 81.

Boe Brown proved the quickest in the tie down roping event with a time of 9.2 seconds with Luke Shafer taking second with a 10.8. Rounding out the top three was Seth Emerson posting a time of 15.4.

Partners Clay Tryan and Travis Graves were the fastest pair in team roping with a time of 4.8 seconds followed Matt Sherwood and Randon Adams posting a time of 5.4 seconds. Nick Sartain and Kollin VonAhn were third with finishing in six seconds.

Barrel racing was easily the closest competition of the night with the top four cowgirls less than a tenth-of-a-second apart.

Michelle West's time of 16.91 seconds was good for first while Ellie Dabney finish of 16.94 gave her second. Third place was a tie with Carolyn Uhlar and Julie Meyer both posting a time of 16.97 seconds.

Finally in bull riding, only three competitors managed to post a score with Luke Haught leading the night with a score of 81 trailed by Lucas Guilbeau who had a 77.

Coming in third was Sunshine Schwartz with a 69.
