NEELYVILLE -- The Chaffee Lady Devils got their 2010 softball season started just the way they wanted with a 9-8 win over the Neelyville Lady Tigers on Monday afternoon.

After Chaffee established a comfortable 9-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, Nellyville stormed back with five runs of their own. The Lady Devils, however, were able to hold them one run shy of a tie and eventually hold on for the win.

"We started off a little shaky on defense but, I guess that's first game jitters for you," Chaffee head coach Shawn Powderly said. "We finally were able to put together a few hits and scored some runs. It was a good win for us to start the season."

Montana Estes pitched a complete game for the Lady Devils allowing four earned runs on 12 hits and two walks. She also struck out five. Estes and the rest of the Chaffee offense helped out at the plate as four players had three hits apiece. Adrienne Eichhorn went 3-for-5 with an RBI, Taylor Fodge went 3-for-4, Kaitlyn Miller also went 3-for-5 with two RBI while Estes had three hits as well.

Chaffee (1-0) will be back in action as they have their first home game against the Kelly Hawks at 4 p.m.
