SIKESTON -- A Sikeston woman is in serious condition after a vehicle accident in New Madrid County on Friday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. on Highway W, four miles west of Kewanee, when a westbound vehicle driven by James W. Heiser, 30, of Campbell, failed to yield at a stop sign, driving into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Patricia A. Quiroz, 56, of Sikeston. According to the Patrol, the wooden stop sign for the intersection was broken.
Quiroz sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, while his passenger, Cecelia S. Botter, 63, of Sikeston, was transported by air ambulance to The Med in Memphis, Tenn., for serious injuries. Heiser sustained minor injuries and opted to seek his own treatment.
