SIKESTON -- There are so many benefits to a healthier workforce.
"It reduces absenteeism, increases production, lowers insurance premiums and improves company morale," said Garth Fuchs, program director at the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce.
And those are just a few reasons why the SACC and its Community Betterment Committee have brought back a workplace fitness competition, "Get Fit Sikeston." Set to kick off Sept. 13, the competition will wrap up Oct. 13.
"The basic goal of Get Fit Sikeston is to use the short-term competition to move toward the long-term success of a healthier community," said Fuchs. Shape Up Sikeston, a similar program, was last held in 2004 and 2005.
To kick off the program, there will be a health screening for all participants. The free screenings will include blood pressure, weight and BMI checks, and are planned for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 13 in the downstairs classroom at Missouri Delta Medical Center. For an additional $20, participants can also get lipid panel and glucose checks.
