Charleston netters down Sikeston; Kelly runners shine
Scott City rolls past Dexter in volleyball action
SIKESTON -- The Charleston Lady Bluejays tennis team downed the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs in a varsity only match 6-3 on Tuesday.
Sikeston picked up wins in singles from Jacarra Lampkin and Kelsey Dial. Lampkin defeated Madeline Burke 8-5 while Dial downed Jasmine Spence 8-1. The two also teamed to best Burke and Taylor Duenne in doubles 8-3 for Sikeston's only other win.
"Jacarra Lampkin and Kelsey Dial have now put two consecutive doubles matches together," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial. "Hopefully they will continue to improve their play together and avoid any more setbacks in concentration and technique."
Sikeston will host Caruthersville today.

CROSS COUNTRY
Arcadia Valley Invite
ARCADIA VALLEY -- The Kelly Hawks cross country team finished the Arcadia Valley Invitational meet on Saturday by placing both Juan Compos and Steve Schott in the top 10.
Compos, who finished seventh, ran a time of 19:37 while Schott ran a 21:15 for a ninth place finish.
Kelly's junior varsity boy's squad captured their second team trophy in a week's span as well. After placing first in the Arcadia Valley meet the Hawks took second at their own Kelly Invitational.
During the Kelly Invitational, Derrick Garner placed second, Jerrod Lynn placed fifth and Trey Walker took eighth.
On Saturday at Arcadia Valley, Lynn brought home first place with a time of 20:29, Garner placed second with a 20:44 finish, Walker ran a 21:31 to place eighth, Devon Romine placed 12th with a 21:50, Alan Lowe ran a 22:49 for 16th and Caleb Birk ran a 23:48 which was good enough for 20th place.
SOFTBALL
Delta 14, Greenville 2
DELTA -- The Delta Lady Bobcats made short work of the visiting Greenville Lady Bears on Tuesday during their first win of the year in a 14-2 win.
The Lady Bobcats (1-8) put up six runs in their half of the first inning and never looked back. They continued to pour on runs with one in the second, three in the third and four more in the fourth.
Myra Henson got the win while Courtney Beggs and Rachel Bartels each had two hits. Samantha Bartels led the Lady Bobcats with three hits.

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Oran Lady Eagles fell to the Notre Dame Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, 14-0.
Oran collected four hits against Notre Dame's winning pitcher, Katie Bond. Six Lady Bulldogs collected two hits in the rout.

VOLLEYBALL
Scott City 2, Dexter 0
SCOTT CITY -- The Scott City Lady Rams volleyball team defeated the visiting Dexter Lady Bearcats on Tuesday night in two sets, 25-19 and 25-12.
Katie Hogan led the Scott City attack with 10 kills, eight digs and two kill blocks. Andy Gray added nine assists and three digs while Sydney Short chipped in eight assists and six digs.
FALL BASEBALL
Naylor 11, Risco 5
NAYLOR -- Coming out of the third inning tied 5-5, visiting Risco saw Naylor score six runs in the next two innings for the 11-5 win.
Earning the win for Naylor was Corey Kovach, who struck out 13 batters in six innings of work.
Though no Risco player had multiple hits, pitcher Chris Pavy was able to start off the game with a triple off the first pitch to kick off the Tigers three-run rally in the inning.
Risco coach Brandon Blankenship said the his team needs to work on getting better at the plater after the Tigers failed to get a base runner from the fourth inning on in Tuesday contest.
Now at 4-3, Risco will look to stay above .500 when they take on visiting North Pemiscot Friday at 4 p.m.
