SIKESTON -- The use of fake marijuana among teens and young adults is widespread across the nation, but there are things adults in their lives can do to possibly prevent danger from hitting close to home.

Synthetic marijuana, commonly known as K2 or spice, is a mixture of herbs and spices that are sprayed with a psychoactive chemical and sold as a legal marijuana substitute in shops and via the Internet.

Throughout the year, the Missouri Poison Center has identified about 75 cases of youth ranging in age from 14 to 21 years who after smoking KS, visited emergency departments with the following symptoms: agitation, anxiety, abnormally rapid heartbeat, elevated blood pressure, vomiting and hallucinations.
