SIKESTON -- Before spending any money on a short-term remedy, Sikeston R-6 school officials want to find the source of large cracks forming on the high school track.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Board of Education rejected the sole bid of $26,800 from Byrne and Jones Sports of St. Louis to repair cracks along the expansion joints on the inside and outside of the track. Instead the Board wants to further explore the issue.
Superintendent Steve Borgsmiller said the district's director of building and grounds initially sought bids to repair the track.
"In looking at some of the challenges that we may have and that not only the sole bidder but also another company we had take a look at what we we're dealing with advised us this (repair) was going to be a Band-Aid, it's my recommendation to reject the sole bid," Borgsmiller said.
Borgsmiller also suggested the district proceed with having an engineer examine the track to find the true cause of the cracks.
