Two still alive for NMCC; one for Bearcats

COLUMBIA -- Five Sikeston wrestlers took part in the Class 3 State Tournament on Thursday, and after the first day, three Bulldogs are still alive.

At 140, Kenton Robinson defeated Cody Zeik of Fort Zumwalt South by decision, 11-6 in the first round, moving on to the championship quarterfinals today.

At 125, Jacob Stinnett lost his first round match by fall at 3:28 to Kevin McElroy of Warrensburg. Stinnett then rebounded in wrestlebacks to defeat Jacob Dalton of McDonald County by fall at 1:43 to stay alive.

At 160, Greg Smith lost his first round match by fall at :57 to Austin Rugraff of St. Charles West. Smith then won his wrestleback by a 5-4 decision over Dwayne West of Raytown to stay alive in the tournament.

At 112, Blake Angle lost his opening match by fall at 3:45 to Zach Nelson of Fort Zumwalt North. Angle was then eliminated by Tanner Schaack of Neosho by a 5-3 decision.

At 171, Faylon Marshall was eliminated after losing his opening match by fall at :56 to Blake Stauffer of Neosho and then losing by fall at 4:13 to Justin Greene of Warren County.

Class 2

Dexter's Cody Stevens defeated Blake Joiner of Moberly 9-5 in the first round of the 160-pound class on Thursday to stay alive for a state title. The junior was scheduled to wrestle again today in the quarterfinals.

At 119, Dexter's Trevor Waldner was eliminated after losing his opening match by fall at 1:55 to Logan Grady of Seneca. Waldner then lost by technical fall to Marquis West to Trinity Catholic 18-3.

At 145, Dexter's Dylan Hardin lost by fall at 3:11 to Chris Hooper of Kirksville and then was eliminated by Tyler Wood of Harrisonville by fall at 3:32.

At 285, Dexter's Zachary Lacy lost his opening match by fall at :40 to Lucas Tunks of Cameron before losing by fall at :48 to Tully Byrne of Pleasant Hill.

Class 1

At 103, New Madrid County Central's Bryce Smith lost his first match to Cody Yager of Centralia by technical fall 22-7. Smith was then eliminated by Skout Raney of Lafayette County by decision, 9-5.

At 119, Charles Taylor of NMCC won by fall at :43 over Tyler Mcgaugh of Richmond and will wrestle in the quarterfinals today.

At 135, Daray Anderson of NMCC lost by fall at 4:16 to Josh Hartzell of Lathrop. Anderson then stayed alive by defeating Benjamin Glenn of Tarkio by major decision, 15-4.
