Farmington blanks Sikeston netters 9-0
Risco, Scott Central, Chaffee all post victories
SIKESTON -- The Sikeston tennis dropped a home match to Farmington 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.
"We played our best against a team far superior in skill level and there were positive signs of improvement in our overall abilities," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial. "We need to just keep getting better."
The Bulldogs also lost in junior varsity action 5-0.
Sikeston will be back in action on Thursday when they host the Charleston Bluejays.

BASEBALL
Chaffee 11, Leopold 1
LEOPOLD -- Wrapping up their 10th win of the season Thursday afternoon, the Chaffee Red Devils defeated the Leopold Wildcats 11-1.
Chaffee (10-1) starter Andrew Dooley picked up the win, while helping his own cause with two hits at the plate. Leading the Red Devils' offense, Cody Payne went 3 for 4 on the contest while Andrew Terhune added a double.
"Dooley looked sharp," Chaffee coach Brian Horrell said. It was the best he's looked all year.
"We made some nice defensive plays and got some timely hitting."

Risco 6, Delta C-7 3
Risco 7, Gideon 1
RISCO -- The Risco Tigers swept a Tri-County Conference doubleheader on Thursday, defeating Delta C-7 6-3 and Gideon 7-1.
Risco trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth when Caleb McCord stepped to the plate and hit a 3-run home run to put the Tigers on top for good. McCord finished the game with five RBIs and three hits.
He then took the mound the in the top of the seventh to shut the door on the Chargers and earn the save. Jordon Pavy earned the win after entering the game in the top of the sixth.
In the nightcap, Risco scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back, defeating Gideon 7-1.
Chris Pavy earned the win, throwing six innings and striking out 11 while giving up only one run. He also was 2-for-4 at the plate, as was Jordon Pavy, who pitched the seventh inning, striking out the side.
Risco is now 5-4 on the season and 4-0 in the Tri-County Conference.

Jackson 8, NMCC 2
JACKSON -- The New Madrid County Central Eagles fell to Jackson 8-2 on the road Thursday afternoon.
Jimmy Ash, Kyle Harris, Collin Ivie and Denton Daughtry all had hits for the Eagles, but it wasn't enough as Jackson scored eight runs on six hits and took advantage of three NMCC errors.
Ash took the lost for NMCC, giving up four runs, three earned, in two innings while allowing two hits and three walks, striking out two. Harris pitched the final four innings of the game, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one.
NMCC (1-2) will be back in action today when they host Charleston.

Senath-Hornersville 3, South Pemiscot 1
SENATH -- The South Pemiscot Bulldogs fell to 2-3 on the season with a 3-1 loss to Senath-Hornersville on Thursday.
The Bulldogs only managed one hit off of starter Wes Westmorlan, who worked 4 2/3 innings, walking nine and striking out two while allowing only one run. That run came in the fifth inning when Jordan Carter delivered an RBI-single.
Exon Moncada pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and held the Bulldogs scoreless, earning the save.
South Pemiscot's Ryan Nolen picked up the hard luck loss, allowing three runs, two earned, in six innings while walking three and striking out three.

SIKESTON -- The Scott County Central Braves won their district game against rival Bell City on Thursday 13-7.
"It's good to get that first district win," Scott Central coach Matt Limbaugh said. "Our bats were there and Ben Freed threw great."
Ben Freed pitched a complete game for the Braves striking out seven.
Dustin Johnson led Scott Central with three hits. Bryan Freed, Nathan Holland, Josh Boese and Tyler Masters each added two hits in the win.
The Braves (4-1) will head to Leopold on Monday.

NEW MADRID -- Winning their third consecutive game to start the season, New Madrid County Central defeated Caruthersville 15-0 after five innings on the mercy rule.
Combining for a no hitter, Michaela Townsend picks up the win, striking out three two innings of play while Kelly Robey pitched the final two innings, striking out six.
On offense Anna Manley led the way with three hits while Dallas Campbell contributed two.
