Tips to stay safe during severe weather

SIKESTON -- Recent weather events have made it clear: tornado season is back.

While bad weather can happen at any time, this area's tornado season typically runs from early March through late spring, according to Sgt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Area residents should be aware that both tornadoes and flash flooding are more likely to occur during this time.

The National Weather Service and the State Emergency Management Agency are encouraging everyone to participate in their NOAA Weather Radio program.
