Late rally lifts East Prairie over Risco
RISCO -- One day after surrendering five runs in the seventh inning in a 9-8 loss to Sikeston, East Prairie turned their fate around by scoring four in the top of the seventh to beat Risco 6-4 on Friday.
With Risco holding a 4-2 lead entering the final inning, four out of the first five Eagle hitters delivered base hits in the top of the seventh and ended up scoring four in the frame to earn the win.
"We've done that quite a few times this year," Risco coach Brandon Blankenship said of his team giving up several runs in the final inning. "We can't seem to get the last few outs. We have a young team and hopefully we can learn from us."
East Prairie's Mikey Russell entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and shut down Risco to earn the save for Ryan Mathis.
Risco rattled the bats early off Mathis, taking a 2-1 lead in the first inning. After East Prairie scored one in the top of the first, the Tigers responded with back-to-back solo home runs by Caleb McCord and Chris Pavy.
McCord finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Pavy was 2-for-4. Alan Miller finished the day 2-for-3 for East Prairie.
Risco (9-10) next scheduled game is at Bernie on Thursday while East Prairie (7-7) will travel to Woodland on Monday.
