SHS tops Blackcats in soccer; Risco falls to Bernie

FREDERICKTOWN -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs soccer team ended the regular season on a high note Thursday, defeating Fredericktown 5-1.

Keyonna Blissett and Madison Chaney each scored two goals apiece while Chaney also added two assists and Blissett one.

Katherine Inman scored the Lady Bulldogs' other goal as Kristin King added an assist.

Sikeston improves to 9-8 on the season and will take on Fredericktown again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Notre Dame in the first round of the Class 2, District 1 Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs are the fourth seeded and if they defeat Fredericktown on Saturday, they will take on top seeded Perryville at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sikeston also won the junior varsity game on Thursday, defeating Fredericktown 1-0 on a goal from Cameron Wilcox. The Sikeston junior varsity ends the season with a record of 6-3-5.

BASEBALL

Bernie 14, Risco 3

BERNIE -- With a monster 12-run rally in the fourth, the Bernie Mules defeated the Risco Tigers 14-3 in five innings on the mercy rule.

Shortly after the Tigers had came back to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the third, the Mules broke things open in their half of the fourth, getting a big boost from starting pitcher Blake Keasler, who helped his own cause with a grand slam as part of a 6 runs batted in performance.

Leading the Mules, Will Barnett was 3 for 3, including a home run while both Keasler and Austin Hatchett had two hits.

For Risco, Jordon Pavy was 2 for 3, including a solo home run.

The loss drops the Tigers to 10-11 to finish the regular season. Risco was scheduled to take on Southland today at noon in the first round of the Class 1, District 1 Tournament held at Cooter.
