BOLIVAR -- Sikeston's Evan Deere is in contention to earn all-state honors at the Class 3 state golf tournament being held at Silo Ridge Golf Course in Bolivar.

Deere, a junior, carded an 81 on Monday and is currently sitting in 18th place with his second round to be played today. The top 15 golfers earn all-state honors.

"Evan had a really good day," Sikeston golf coach Andy McGill said. "He was actually shooting better than that but had a rough go at it on the last five holes.

"Still, he's in good position for the second round."

Bulldog teammate Ben Murray shot a 95 and is sitting in 79th place.

Dexter's Logan Robey shot an 82 and sits in 23rd place while Cody Stevens carded a 87 and is in 47th place. The Bearcats' Brennen Justice shot a 97 and is in 83rd position.

Class 2 State Golf Tournament

SPRINGFIELD -- Kelly's Derrick Garner shot an 88 at the first day of the Class 2 State Golf Tournament on Monday at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Garner, sitting at 16-over par, is currently 45th and played his final round today.

Kennett is currently the team leader, shooting a 332, six strokes ahead of second place Whitfield. Kennett's Ryan Richardson is second overall with a 76 while Hayden P. Combs is eighth with a 79.
