A controlled burn in a harvested wheat field got a little too close for comfort to a home on Columbine on Wednesday afternoon. The Sikeston Department of Public Safety was called at 12:21 p.m. when the fire approached the trees near a home, although the farmers had taken precautions of disking the field beforehand. Four Sikeston DPS fire trucks as well as one from Miner worked to battle the blaze and keep it away from several tree lines in the area. They were able to clear the scene at 1:42 p.m.
