Sikeston tennis team drops match to Fredericktown

SIKESTON -- Hosting Fredericktown on Thursday, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs tennis team fell 7-2.

The Lady Bulldogs lone win in varsity singles came from Kelsey Dial, who defeated Myranda Shafer 8-1. Dial then teamed up with Bailey Cooper to pull off an 8-6 in doubles play against Shafer and Caitlin Neubrand.

"We played a tough district opponent and came up short," Sikeston coach Russ Dial said. "However, there was some positive things happening with our play.

"I believe the inexperienced players are beginning to improve and Kelsey Dial and Barley Coleman both looked good in their wins."

On the junior varsity side, Sikeston was also edged out, 3-2. Mallory Gardner defeated Emily Ray 6-2 in singles while they Lady Bulldogs took a doubles match 6-4.

Sikeston will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Caruthersville at 4 p.m.
