SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs soccer team put on a defensive showcase on Monday against the visiting Poplar Bluff Mules in a 1-0 Sikeston win.
"Our defense really stepped up and played well," Sikeston coach Doyle Noe said. "They pretty much shut everything down and was the player of the game, so to speak."
Although Sikeston punched in only one goal, they dominated the shot total 19-2. Noe said that defensive players such as Steven Baker and keeper Michael Gipson played a major role in the shutout.
In the 32nd minute, Hunter Williams gave Sikeston their lone goal with an assist from Tyler McClinton.
"We possessed the ball pretty much all night long," said Noe. "We came out and played well right from the start and controlled the tempo."
Sikeston (16-4) will play Saxony Lutheran on Wednesday.
