SIKESTON -- With the warm temps that arrived on high winds, it's easy to forget: winter is coming.

The National Weather Service, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and state and local emergency managers have joined forces to promote Wednesday as Winter Weather Awareness Day in Missouri.

Paul D. Parmenter, director of the State Emergency Management Agency, recalled in a recent news release the "severe winter storm" last winter that began Jan. 31 and dropped up to two feet of snow in some areas.
