SIKESTON -- Many athletes in the Standard Democrat coverage area have been performing well at the college level. SIKESTON -- Many athletes in the Standard Democrat coverage area have been performing well at the college level. Here is a list of those who are furthering their athletic careers this fall and winter playing either football or basketball.

FOOTBALL

Kony Ealy, NMCC -- A redshirt freshman defensive lineman at the University of Missouri, Ealy played in 12 games with one start. Ealy made 13 tackles with three tackles for loss and one sack for the Tigers. In the Independence Bowl against North Carolina, Ealy made two tackles and was credited for half of a tackle for loss.

Trey Lewis, Sikeston -- A freshman quarterback at Southeast Missouri State University, Lewis played in five games gaining 60 yards on 10 carries. He also completed three of 10 passes for 39 yards and returned four kicks for 44 yards.

Corey Porter, Sikeston -- Porter was a freshman lineman for the Southeast Missouri State University.

Glen Johnson, Dexter -- A junior defensive end at Southwest Baptist University, Johnson played in 11 games, collecting 24 tackles. Johnson also had two sacks and two tackles for losses while breaking up one pass.

Treston Pulley, Sikeston -- A freshman linebacker at Lincoln University, Pulley played in four games, making four tackles.

Josh Carlyle, Sikeston -- Carlyle was a redshirt freshman offensive lineman for Lindenwood University.

VOLLEYBALL

Brooke Simpson, Scott City -- A 5-10 sophomore middle blocker and outside hitter, Simpson just finished her final season at Jefferson College. Simpson was second on the team with 358 kills while compiling 281 digs and 54 blocks.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Otto Porter, Scott County Central -- A 6-8 freshman forward at Georgetown, Porter is making a name for himself, playing 28 minutes a game for the Hoyas. In 18 games, Porter is averaging eight points and seven rebounds per game and is second on the team in steals with 23.

Michael Porter, Sikeston -- A 6-6 sophomore at Southeast Missouri State University, Porter has played in 18 games for the Redhawks, starting four and averaging 16 minutes a game. Porter is averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds per game.

Donnell Minnis, Portageville -- A 6-2 sophomore guard at Three Rivers College, is averaging three points a game in 17 games for the Raiders. Minnis is also pulling down two rebounds per contest.

Will Holifield, Sikeston -- A 6-0 freshman guard at Three Rivers College, Holifield is averaging three points per game in 18 games. Holifield hit a game-winning 3-pointer against Arizona Western in the semifinals of the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout in Mesa, Arizona.

Dontre' Jenkins, NMCC -- A 6-1 sophomore guard at William Woods, Jenkins has played in 18 games, starting 17. Jenkins is averaging seven points per game and three rebounds while leading the team with 51 assists.

Alan Flannigan, Dexter -- A 6-6 freshman at Lafayette, Flannigan has scored eight points in 10 games while grabbing 15 rebounds.

Janeil Hatchett, Sikeston -- A 6-1 freshman guard at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Hatchett is redshirting for the Titans.

Darryl Howard, Sikeston -- A 6-2 freshman guard at College of the Ozarks, Howard has played in 10 games and averages four points per game. Howard is third on the team in steals with 16.

Jerry Carter, Charleston -- A 6-0 freshman guard at Shawnee Community College, Carter is averaging six points per game in 10 contests with the Saints while hitting a team-leading 53 percent of his 3-pointers.

Drew Thomas, Scott County Central -- A 6-4 junior guard at Livingstone College, has played in 10 games, starting five. The former Scott Central standout is averaging 6.5 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Nick Niemczyk, Bell City -- A 6-1 junior guard at Southeast Missouri State University has played in 18 games with 12 starts. Niemczyk is averaging 9.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while hitting 88 percent of his free throws.

Bobby Hatchett, Scott County Central -- A 5-11 guard at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, Hatchett is scoring eight points per game in 12 games. He is averaging three assists per game and is hitting 76 percent of his free throws.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Abbie Warren, Dexter -- A 6-0 sophomore post player at Three Rivers College, Warren has played in six games, starting two after beginning the season with an injury. Warren is averaging 10 points per game and six rebounds.

Ashlee Taylor, Dexter -- A 5-9 junior guard/forward at William Woods, Taylor is averaging eight points and five rebounds per game in 13 games, starting 11.

Cathryn Heil, Dexter -- A 5-10 junior guard/forward at Missouri S&T, Heil has played in nine games and grabbed three rebounds but has yet to find the scoring column this season.

Katelyn Heil, Dexter -- A 5-10 junior guard/forward at Missouri S&T, Heil has played in 14 games, starting two while averaging five points and three rebounds per game.

Jill Temples, Dexter -- A 5-6 junior guard at Henderson State University, Temples has played in 14 games, starting nine while averaging six points per game. Temples has grabbed two rebounds per game and leads the team with 40 assists.
