LILBOURN -- Leonard E. Etienne, 91, died Jan. 24, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born June 18, 1920, in Leopold, Ind., he was the son of the late Pete and Janie Avis Etienne.
In 1946, in Steele, he married his wife of 65 years Kathryn Etienne, who preceded him in death on July 13, 2003.
One son, Larry Etienne; and one grandson, Brian Robinson, also preceded him in death.
He was a lifelong member of the VFW in Lilbourn and the Eagles Lodge Aerie 4209 in New Madrid. To many people Leonard was known as the "Pull Tab Man," because he always sold the pull tabs at bingo at the Lilbourn VFW and Eagles Lodge 4209. He was also a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include: four daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Dennis Watkins of Gilbertstville, Ky., Debbie and David Balling of Memphis, Tenn., Mary Jane and Danny Roberts of Jackson, Tenn., and Jo and David Crouthers of Catron; one sister, Alma Hardesty of Blytheville, Ark.; and 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid. The Revs. Jarek Skrzypek and Ernie Hardesty officiated.
Burial followed in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Pallbearers were: John Teague, Stephen Teague, Jeff Robinson, David Roberts, Donald Hart and Scott Shelton.
