Spurlin Beck

SIKESTON -- Spurlin Beck, 85, died March 16, 2012, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born April 23, 1926, in Matthews, son of the late Spurlin and Birdie Duke Beck Sr., he was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine serving in World War II and during the Korean War. He farmed and was involved in many other business ventures.

On Feb. 11, 1951, in Sikeston, he married George Anna Johnston who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sandra Beck of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter and son-in-law Patricia and David Stiegler of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Jewell and Warren Harber of Sikeston; and three grandchildren, Christopher Stiegler, Camille Stiegler and Samantha (Corey) Clark.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Services were conducted Monday at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Burial with full military honors followed at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. The Rev. John Goodwin of the Presbyterian Church of Sikeston officiated.
