Risco, NMCC and Oran all pick up wins

RISCO -- Picking up their second straight win to start the season, the Risco Tigers got a two-run walk off home run from senior Chris Pavy to beat Saxony Lutheran 7-5 in eight innings on Tuesday.

Trailing 5-2, the Tigers tied things up with a three run rally in the fifth. Going into extra inning, Jordon Pavy then opened the eight with a single before Chris Pavy's blast ended the game.

Chris Pavy went 4 for 5 in the game with two home runs and a triple while driving in four runs. Caleb McCord had a two hits, a double and a triple, with Brandon Bixler going 2 for 4 with a double.

Caleb McCord picked up the win pitching the final three innings.

Risco is now 2-0 after beating Richland 30-0 in three innings on Monday. They will host North Pemiscot today at 4 p.m.

NMCC 12, Caruthersville 2

CARUTHERSVILLE -- Led by a solid start from Jimmy Ash, New Madrid County Central opened the season with a 12-2 win over Caruthersville in six innings on Tuesday.

Ash went all six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out 11.

"Jimmy threw well," Eagles' head coach Joseph McClarty said. "He kept the ball down and threw strikes while the defense played well behind him only allowing one error."

Leading NMCC at the plate, Jayshawn McDaniel and Tim Clayton had three hits each, including a double and two runs batted in by McDaniel. Ash had two hits and an RBI while Kyle Harris and Gabe Smith each added a double to the Eagles' cause. Smith had three RBI on the contest.

NMCC will host Kelly on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Oran 11, Bloomfield 6

ORAN -- Oran scored six runs in their final two at-bats on Tuesday to get past Bloomfield 11-6 in their season opener.

Kody Moore had four hits, including a double, as the Eagles scored five runs in the first and fifth innings. Moore got the start on the mound and was relieved by Dalton Elfrink, who earned the win.

GOLF Caruthersville quad

CARUTHERSVILLE -- The Kelly golf team won a quad-match on Tuesday in Caruthersville.

Kelly posted a team score of 177 while Malden finished with a 212 and Caruthersville a 226. Hayti participated but didn't post a team score as they did not field a full team.

Kelly's Derrick Garner posted the lowest score of the day with a 37. Josh Roberts finished with a 42 while Jacob Buell shot a 44. Jacob Riley and Nathan Haney rounded out the scoring with a 54 and 66 respectively.

Kelly will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Bent Creek in Cape Girardeau where they will take on Notre Dame and Saxony Lutheran.

TENNIS Marion, Ill. 9, Sikeston 0

MARION, Ill. -- The Sikeston Bulldogs lost their tennis opener 9-0 at Marion on Tuesday.

"Although we didn't put any matches on the board today, we still played well against a team that had a two-week head start on us," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial. "Their experience against our inexperience showed. We just need to clean up some fundamental skills and we'll be more competitive."

Sikeston will be back in action on Saturday at the Farmington Invitational.
