About 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sikeston Department of Public Safety's fire division was called to the Sikeston Career and Technical Center when a fire began in the Auto Mechanics area. About 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sikeston Department of Public Safety's fire division was called to the Sikeston Career and Technical Center when a fire began in the Auto Mechanics area. According to Chad King, SCTC director, the students were grinding on a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle when apparently vapors from the drained gas tank caught fire. Students were able to quickly put the fire out and called 9-1-1, King said, adding no one was injured. Fire personnel then checked the building, which was filled by heavy smoke.
