SIKESTON -- Evelyn Sanders, 94, formerly of East Prairie, died at 7:20 p.m. March 21, 2012, in the East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born Nov. 5, 1917, in Mississippi County to the late Charles and Maude Kidd Jackson, she lived most of her life in East Prairie where she worked at the Ben Franklin Dime Store for over 50 years.

On Aug. 24, 1934, in the Whiting community near East Prairie, she married Louie Henry Sanders who preceded her in death on July 28, 1939.

Also preceding her in death were one son, Louie Wayne Sanders, four brothers, A.V. Jackson, Charlie Jackson, George Jackson and Joseph Jackson, and four sisters, Augusta Jackson, Tessie Walker, Margaret Whelen and Ella Moore.

She is survived by: three grandchildren, Debra Alonso of Gulf Breeze, Fla., David Sanders of Shreveport, La., and Christopher Sanders of the state of Texas; one sister, Frances Slaten of Charleston; and three great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until time for a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.
