FARMINGTON -- Sikeston golfer Evan Deere finished first in the Farmington Invitational Tournament on Wednesday as the Bulldogs placed second as a team at Crown Pointe Golf Course.
Deere, a senior, shot a 77 to lead the field.
It was a good showing for Sikeston's golf team, which scored a combined 333, at a place where they will have to perform well to move on during the postseason.
Crown Pointe is the host site for for the Class 2, District tournament about three weeks away.
"It was a good chance for our kids to play and play well for districts coming up," Sikeston golf coach Andy McGill said. "Their rough's are kind of difficult to play on and for us to get the chance to experience the course was good."
Kirk Hoggatt and Gabe Wheeler each tied for fourth place individually with scores of 80. Ben Murray shot a 96 while Conor MacGillivray carded a 99.
It was a slow start to their second place finish, as the rainy conditions played a part.
Deere began the day by shooting a 6-over on the front nine, while Wheeler carded an 8-over on the first nine as well.
"It was probably the worst conditions we've had so far this year," McGill said. "There was some rain, but they played through that. They buckled down and played well considering their starts."
Jackson took the team title.
Sikeston's next match will be at Poplar Bluff to take part in the Poplar Bluff Invitational at the Westwood Hills Country Club.
