Clarence Hayes Jr.
PORTAGEVILLE - Clarence Hayes Jr., 87, of the Hayward community near Portageville died April 7, 2012, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born Sept. 15, 1924, at Conran, to Clarence and Clara Fields Hayes, he was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy. Retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Michigan, he was a Faith Assembly of God minister.
He was married to Dorothy Bivins, who proceeded him in death on Sept. 17, 2001. On June 15, 2003, in Ypsilanti, Mich., he married Emma Ruth Jeffers, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Amy Hayes and of Ypsilanti; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Don Shockley of Seminole, Okla., and Patricia and Barry Gilliam of Yukon, Okla.; one stepson, Russell Smith of St. Louis; five stepdaughters, Cherie Allinger, Cindy Smith and Maria Smith of St, Louis, Sharon Slusser and Judy Helm of Ellesbury; three sisters, Thelma Gooch and Juanita Hayes of Portageville and Athalyn Norris of Ypsilanti; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were five sisters, Alice Garrison, Velma Powell, Miriam Waters, Jean Gooch and Margaret Totty; three brothers, James Hayes, Fred Hayes and one infant brother,
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the DeLisle Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Eugene Poole will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
