R-6 Board welcomes two new members, says goodbye to two
SIKESTON -- The Sikeston R-6 Board of Education reorganized and welcomed two new members during its monthly meeting Tuesday at the district office.
New members Chris Hodgkiss and David L. Jones took their oaths of office for three-year terms. Outgoing board members Toni Kellett and Jill Hopson, who each served a one three-year term, didn't seek re-election to the board.
Board President Scott Crumpecker thanked Kellett and Hopson for their service and gave each a personalized set of glass book ends.
"We do want to recognize the accomplishments Ms. Hopson and Ms. Kellett have made," Crumpecker said. "The past three years they've added a lot of good discussions to our board and brought a lot to the board that some of us don't possess knowledge of, and I want to tell you both you'll be sorely missed."
Members also reorganized the board by electing officers for the new term. Crumpecker was re-elected president, and Amy Blanton was re-elected vice president. Bryan Nickell will succeed Pete Burns as secretary of the board effective April 16. Lori Boardman will once again serve as treasurer, and Cheryl White as assistant treasurer.
In other business Tuesday, the Board approved the employment of 26 administrative and 102 non-tenured staff members for the 2012-2013 school year. New staff employments of kindergarten instructors, April Tinnin and Mykah Chappell; and health occupations instructor, Gloria Houston, were also approved for the 2012-2013 school year.
