JEFFERSON CITY -- It was an overall good start for the Sikeston Bulldogs track team Friday as they kicked off the first day of the Class 3 State Championship meet at Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City on the campus of Lincoln University.

Sikeston's 4x200 meter relay team finished first during preliminaries beating their competitors by nearly a full two seconds.

The team of Steven Baker, Kyland Gross, Spenser Clark and Nick Nichols finished the race with a time of 1:28.87 -- beating their season's personal best by two seconds as well.

The 4x200 team tried for a state championship Saturday. Results from that race, as well as all other finals, will be in the Tuesday edition of the Standard Democrat.

The 4x100 relay squad -- the same as the 4x200 -- qualified for the championship with a time of 43.11, which was good enough to seed them fifth on Saturday.

Senior Terry Jamison finished ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 42-10 inches, narrowly missing all-state honors.

In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Keldon Warfield failed to qualify for the championship finishing 11th with a 15.34 time.

On the girls side, Jalen Peet, a senior, finished fourth in the long jump giving her all-state honors and five points for Sikeston as a team.

Peet leaped 17-2 3/4 inches, giving the senior all-state honors.

The 4x100 meter relay team just missed qualifying for the finals.
