EAST PRAIRIE -- Paul Vernon Adkisson, 83, died at 7:30 p.m. June 16, 2012, in the East Prairie Nursing Center.
Born July 31, 1928, in Mississippi County, to the late Rudolph and Alice Tanner Adkisson, he lived most of his life in East Prairie where he was a member of the First Christian Church. He was a retired federal grain inspector and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge 407 in Charleston and also a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite.
On May 17, 1947, he married Ruth Ellen Estes who preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 2002.
He was also preceded in death by: two brothers, Jerry Adkisson and Jack Adkisson; and one sister, Thelma Lieberman.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Debbie Adkisson of East Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jim Mann of Maumelle, Ark.; three brothers, Ralph Adkisson of Charleston and Joe Adkisson and Bill Adkisson both of East Prairie; two sisters, Dean Yount and Sue Martin of East Prairie; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie with Masonic services at 7 p.m. by the Charleston Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with his grandson, Shane Adkisson, and his brother, Bill Adkisson officiating.
Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Jason Mann, Riley Adkisson, David Adkisson, Daniel Forcum, Jon Hutcheson and Brian Mann.
