PADUCAH, Ky. -- The National Weather Service is reporting an elevated wildfire risk today for Southeast Missouri.

"Near red flag atmospheric conditions will become established this afternoon with south to southwest winds picking up into the 13-17 mph range," according to the weather service. "Some guest of 20 to 25 mph may occur, especially in open areas over higher terrain."

The humidity levels should remain at or above 30 percent for the most part.

Because vegetation remains extremely dry, the fire warning will be quite elevated in the afternoon.
