SIKESTON -- The first day of class for local school districts may be a couple weeks away, but preparation for the new school year is happening now.
New Madrid County R-1 is among the first school districts to begin the school year with Aug. 10 as the first day of classes.
"We are just about to get buildings completed as far as waxing the floors and maintenance," said New Madrid County R-1 Superintendent Bill Nance.
Teachers will begin Aug. 8.
